Tips to create a resume for warehouse workers in 2022

Amidst ever-growing apprehensions of more and more jobs across industries getting obsolete through technological advancement and automation, the warehousing and logistics industry is one where jobs are only increasing. New warehousing jobs are popping up in bulk all over America every day and there is intense competition for these positions. One can find top-of-the-shelf warehousing jobs in a wide variety of cities ranging from northern cities like New York to southern cities like Huston. 

The explosion of e-commerce in the US is one of the major reasons for the increased demand for the warehouse workforce. It has also changed the industry significantly — the warehouses of today are one of the busiest and most fast-paced workplaces in the world.

Warehouse workers today are expected to know about a lot more than just loading and unloading and picking and packing. The warehouses of 2022 are semi-automatic and the machinery is no longer limited to forklifts and pallet jacks. From operating simple barcode scanners to working with literal robots, anything can be expected from a warehouse worker in 2022.

Being strong and agile and having good stamina is no longer enough to cut it. Hiring managers today take these qualities for granted and hardly ever even bring them up during the interview anymore. Neither is your experience of operating power industry tools and WMS (warehouse management systems) enough to make you stand apart from the countless other resumes in HR’s mail.

Here are three general tips to create a great resume for warehouse workers in 2022:

• Be aware of the intent: It is very important to keep the motive of writing in mind all the time while writing your resume. You are not writing to show off your achievements, neither are you writing to coax them into giving you a job. The point of writing a resume is to simply present yourself in the best light possible without being dishonest in any way. Bearing the purpose in mind will guide your writing and keep you from deviating into unimportant or counterproductive stuff. Finish the first draft and then just imagine you are the recruiter and are looking at your resume. Does it, above all, look authentic and genuine? You can have the most impressive points on your resume but, if your resume lacks a human touch, it could be stepped over by a less impressive one that looks more authentic. If you ever feel the urge to be show-offy, over formal, or pretentious, remember that the resume evaluator does this for a living and would see right through your facade.
  
  
• Play to your strengths: Owing to the great competition for warehousing jobs, you can be sure to be competing with applicants with better credentials than you. How do you deal with this? The obvious answer is to upgrade your skill set, which is not possible in the short time between when you came across the job posting and the last date for the submission of applications. So, what should you do? Just spend a moment in introspection and think of all your attributes, and skill sets that could go on a resume. You have no idea what the employers may find useful, so go ahead and put any notable talents of yours on the resume. For instance, if you are bi or multi-lingual, go ahead and put it on that resume. Who knows, the prospect of having someone who speaks the first language of the minority group workers in the warehouse may be appealing to the recruiters. Or, instead of simply saying that you have no prior work experience, try saying something like ‘’ I come with a freshers approach and am open and eager to learn new stuff. I am a clean slate and would not need to unlearn anything to learn something new. A resume for warehouse workers may very well include general positive points about the candidates and doesn’t have to be all about moving materials.
  
  
• Avoid cliches like the plaque: Try to leave out the generic words and phrases you find in resumes. There are other ways to make your resume look professional than using loads of corporate jargon. If you must talk about generic stuff on your resume, then please don’t say stuff like ‘’I’m a hard worker and am always punctual.’’ Instead, try writing a line or two about why you personally value punctuality and how you have been commended on your hard work in the past. Although sticking to the general format of resumes is highly recommended, it doesn’t mean you have to be restricted in the content as well. A resume for warehouse workers has a great scope for creativity and if crafted right, it can secure you the job before you even sit for the interview.
